I’m sure we’ve all heard the people in general chat saying things like, “LF4 More, Heroic MgT” or “LF2 More for H UB, need tank and heals.” Why you would announce that you’re looking for more when you have neither of the most important classes, I have no idea.
Anyhow, no, I’m not actually looking for 24 more for Black Temple. BT is, however, in my near future, I hope. I raid in an alliance of about 5 guilds on the Whisperwind server. None of the guilds can effectively run 25 mans on their own, so for some time we’ve had this alliance. It start with Gruul, and moved on to Mags, SSC, TK and MH. Now, we are set to hit the Black Temple.
Now then, I don’t agree with our progression, but I don’t have any say in these discussions, so my opinion doesn’t mean jack. For some time we were running Gruul, Mags, SSC and TK pretty regularly. We were spending 2 nights a week on TK and SSC, and we got to 5/6 in SSC and 2/4 in TK. (That could be wrong on TK, don’t quote me on that.)
I have only participated in a couple Gruul and Mags runs, but I have been in a LOT of the SSC runs. I was in the group that first killed Morogrim, FLK and Leo. I was also in the first (and maybe only, I’m not sure) group that even took a crack at Lady V. Personally, I wanted to continue down that path. 2 nights a week in SSC, the first night hopefully getting at least the first 4, then the second night taking out the last boss and then working on Lady V.
It hasn’t worked out that way. You see, it was slow going at first. It took us a couple months of 2 SSC runs a week to get to 5/6. There was a LOT of wiping going on, as a lot of people had to learn the various fights.
2 months ago, I didn’t even have to sign up. I could just log on shortly before start time, and they ALWAYS needed one or two more people. Around the time we took down Leo for the first time, and got to have regular success in SSC, signups exploded. Where before we were sometimes struggling to fill runs at all, we now had 30+ signing up for every raid. We also took a hit in our efficiency, since many people each week were totally new to the instance. I don’t think we’ve seen Lady V since.
Anyhow, shortly after that, the Alliance leaders decided to switch up our targets. One night each of SSC and TK were dropped in favor of MH runs. I don’t agree with this, but as I said before, I have no say. I wish we could try to be at least a LITTLE more selective and make some honest attempts at the last T5 bosses, but that ain’t happening. Instead we are moving on.
So, anyhow. This Saturday, we are going to make our first foray into the Black Temple. Now, I am already signed up, and though I disagree I am excited to finally see this instance, but I have a problem.
I need to get to 9k unbuffed HPs by Friday. I think I can do it, but it will take some work. I have an old pair of Earthsoul leggings that I can gem for stamina and swap out my present badge legs, and I also have the blue boots from MagT just sitting in my bank. I don’t have the playtime to farm furiously for badges before then, but maybe I can pick up another useful piece or two. Hopefully I can get there. If I do, I will certainly blog about it! Also, if anyone has any recommendations on what I could do, you can go ahead and peek at Pummra’s armory in my sidebar.

this is actually becoming more of a common occurance since the removal of attunements to MH and BT. More groups are not bothering to finish out SSC and TK infavor of rushing MH to get “phat lewtz”.
The biggest downslide to all of this is the lack of experiance that ppl gain from actually completing those places. What seems to happen is that a core group of the run gets thier gear and then is bored. They dont want to run it anymore because its just a long night of repair bills. So they bail for hyjal, the first two bosses are rather easy (if you have enough aoe), and they think the whole run is gonna be a cakewalk. Epseically if they are getting their strat from a guild that has the place on farm (and had ssc and tk on farm, which means their entire group was fully geared already and able to walk in and wtfomgbbqwhowantsseconds?pwn the place).
But the ugly side is that 1/2 the run is mostly geared correctly, the other 1/2 isnt geared properly, theres gonna be a lotta wiping, a lotta complaining, and suddenly a whole lotta no more raiding because ppl are bummed that 1;) they spend too much money on repairs, 2.) they arent getting any new loot, 3.) its a pain in the @$$.
I wish ya luck and hope it works out.

“Why you would announce that you?re looking for more when you have neither of the most important classes, I have no idea.”
Maybe because the healer and tank can be counted as “more”? And if you didn’t advertise, you’d never get them? Sitting in LFG can be both long and frustrating so being proactive can only be better, surely?

that 9k (better 10k) u need for the first boss in BT can be a nasty thing to achieve (most of all if u don’t have any pvp equip). i had some probs with my shadow at that point, but thanks to buff food (+30 stamina) i did it somehow.

Sometimes you have to ask yourself, is it worth rushing to differnt/new content at the expense of becoming frustrated. I’m hoping more 10 man content in wotlk can put to bed some of these issues.
I also agree that they shouldn’t do away with keying for some of the top dungeons.

Hey Pummra, my first time visiting. Quite impressive! All in all, I mostly agree with your desire to finish T5 content. I certainly felt that and expressed it in the slack forum, when Hyjal was first put on the calendar. What I have later found out is that MANY guilds skip Vashj, since it is such an intricate fight. And, as you know, with us having so many people sliding in/out of raiding, it is all the harder for us to handle anything that requires knowledge (ugh). Just as we get a boss sorta figured out, we get 5+ new people that are clueless. Sorta, “if guilds that are large enough to run SSC in-house skip Vashj, how can we expect an alliance to do it?”
As for needing 9k UNBUFFED health, I certainly won’t be there. Who knows, maybe the RL won’t let me go, but I doubt it. As I said in my post, I’ll take Knowledge/Preparation/Skill over stats every day of the week, especially for a healer. As long as we are 10k+ buffed health, we’ll be fine.
BTW, with Hammer switching to elemental, I’ve sorta taken on the role of organizing the healers. One cool new technological advance is that I figured out how I can “whisper” to the healers via TeamSpeak. No one in the general raid hears what I say, except for the people in my whisper group. Everyone has been happy with the addition, though I’m sure they are getting sick of my play-by-play at times.
I’ve been called Howard Cosell already! It really has helped deal with healing tactics, for instance, we are losing almost no DPS on the mob waves in Hyjal.
The only disadvantage is that you can’t whisper back to me. Well, you can, but you have to jerry-rig TS into doing it. It’s not difficult, but though some people expressed an interest in learning how to set it up for themselves, once they found out it requires a separate push-to-talk, and modifcation/maintenance each time the healing team changes during/between raids, no one has persued it.
Looking forward to raiding with you! Haven’t teamed up with you in a month+
