It can be depressing to be a casual player. I play roughly 4 times per week. On two of those nights, I can play around 3 hours, sometimes more. The other nights, though, I can only jump in game for an hour or two. This is probably a big reason why I have so many mid-level alts.
The reason for this is that it’s tough to get anything done in just an hour or two. Sure, I could run dailies, but then I’m looking at roughly half my play time devoted to the same quests over and over again. (Of course, I should do dailies anyhow if I EVER want that epic flying skill!)
What I usually do is log on with my Druid, and ask in guild if anyone wants to get an instance going. If I can quickly put a group together, in 15 minutes or so, I can do any instance in the game. The times I log on though, around 10 pm game time, there are usually only about 10-15 guild members online, and many of them are almost done for the night.
So there you have it. Time to alt.
Now, the real reason for this post. I’m tired of getting to the mid levels and giving up. I want to focus my efforts on one or two alts, and try to get one or two more 70s. This will help with getting instances more often, if I can fill different roles. So let’s look at what I have now.
- Pummra, 70 Resto Druid
- Feroz, 70 BM Hunter
- Emerson, 50 Shadow Priest
- Whitman, 42 Enhancement Shaman
- Mummrah, 42 Combat Rogue
- Pummrah, 40 Arms Warrior
- Pumrah, 20 Fire Mage
I also have a couple really low levels, and I have one empty slot on my server. So theoretically, I could make an entirely new character and focus on him. (Which I’ve thought about doing, maybe trying a Paladin.) It’s just so hard to make a decision.
Honestly, I like all my characters in their own ways. I’ve thought maybe I’d want to level the Shammy, and respeccing him to Resto at some point for that awesome Brain Heal. I’ve also thought maybe the warrior is a good idea, to have a tank class. I used to love tanking w/ Pummra when he was Feral. The shadow priest is nice because he seems SOOO tough right now. I can take anything, and Shad Priests are perhaps the ultimate Raid Support Class. (He also has another benefit in that he’s actually doing really well on tradeskills, 300 Tailoring and Enchanting. For a long time he was a tradeskill alt.)
Ack! If I could just make a stinking decision, I’d be dangerous. The problem is that I can’t. It’s been a weakness of mine forever, indecisiveness. I’m also easily intrigued by seeing someone play a particular class REALLY well. I started focusing on the Priest when I saw a raiding Shadow Priest in action. I started focusing on the shammy when I realized how much the raids I ran in could use a chain healer.
So, anyone have any advice? Heck, even if you tell me I should start a Pally, I could do it fairly painlessly. I now have the ultimate alt kit on one of my ultra low levels. All white (non binding) leather armor with some good enchants. Pants with clefthide, a staff with fiery, gloves with haste, a chestpiece with +stats. Some really good stuff that makes the low levels fly. So I’m begging you, dear reader, convince me!

Well, you have a healer (resto druid) and a dpser (hunter). We’re in a similar sea going vessel here
I have a warrior and a hunter, and decided I should try healing one day. So I rolled a druid. He’s newly 70 and I’m very glad I found your blog. You’ve been a big help.
I suggest going for the tank. Your warrior’s 40, correct? Arms is a decent leveling spec (it’s how I got up there). If you can get the gear, Fury works well too. It’s all about the gear, though, so be prepared to try to keep the best weapon you can get your hands on equipped. On the other hand, warriors can be a lot of fun. You understand the healing role well. Understanding the tanking role will (at least that’s my theory) help you become an even better healer. I’m doing a role-reversal with my best bud (who’s an amazing healer). He’s rolling a pally tank right now and I’ll be going resto with my druid. That way we can help each other out with the finer points of the jobs.
Having that flexibility is VERY nice. I’ve already seen it with my warrior and hunter. I was the only plate wearing tank for a bit in my guild, and we had a couple of new tanks coming up, so when they wanted to get their feet wet (and grab some upgrades) I was able to switch to my hunter and help with the DPS. Now, my guild’s short healers too often, so I’m hoping I can help with that.
The one problem I’ve seen with having multiple 70s is a lack of focus. But I like the variety too. I’d truly be torn right now if I had to pick one 70 to play full time. Good luck!
I know what you are talking about. I have a 70 druid, 70 mage and then 41 druid, 40 warlock, 41 shaman, 38 priest, 33 hunter and a few more around 20 … I am surprised I managed to level the mage.
Right now I have very little time to play, so I am focussing on alts because leveling is something that can be accomplished with short playtimes and solo (funny enough I had a few leveling companions). Currently I am focussing on the Shaman. I have a tanking option with my druid, a ranged DPS with the mage and I want to spec the Shaman for healing. It is also a choice of professions for me since the Shaman is leveling Jewelcrafting and Mining, the latter being the one gathering profession I have not yet at 375.
I am looking forward to having both a healer and a tank at the same time – I am not a big fan of respecs and I hope it will work out with the Shaman healing. I like feral tanking and neither Warrior nor Paladin looks like an option I would want to pursue for tanking.
I am in pretty much the same situation. I play a few hours at night and while I could be spending them doing dailies day in and day out, that’s all I’d ever be doing. Boring!
If you are anything like me, you’ll probably enjoy tanking on a hybrid class. Warriors simply do not provide the flexibility that a druid or pally tank can. Therefore, you should make a pally tank.
Just last night I was playing on my 25 pally tank with a 25 rogue and 26 fire mage. We were doing quests in Raven Hill Cemetary in Duskwood when we saw Mor’ladim. He’s a level 30 elite, red to us. We decided to try and take him down, and we did! I held aggro and healed myself through his damaging blows while the rogue and mage whittled his green bar down to 0. A warrior could not have done that without a healer… I don’t even think a feral druid of the same level could have managed it either.
Make thee a tankadin!
I leveled my warrior to 70 before all my other characters when BC came out. The problem back then was finding a healer though. Eventually I leveled a healer to 70 only to discover that now there is a tank shortage. I’m not sure how it is on your server, but I can be in LFG for about 2 minutes and get an invite to an instance, and thats before people realize I’m in epics. Theres a huge demand for tanks on my server.
I’d recommend leveling the warrior so that you can play any role for a group. Thats just me though.
I’d like to level a druid someday but I haven’t been able to find the time as of late.
I’m kinda biased. I lub my paladin
As I see it you have:
A healer
A CC/Dps (hunter)
A up and coming support/dpser (shad priest)
I’d say add a tank and a hard dpser, maybe a warlock. Sometimes its just nice to cut loose and make something go BOOM
